Can anyone give me names of some fast fps games (old or new) like quake live, hl DM, and other ones.
Extra points if it still has an active community.

Does Warframe count? Its pretty fast, free to play and has a decent community behind it as well... also, Ninjas!!!!
The Tribes series. Some people still play Tribes:Ascend last time I checked. The gliding is glorious when you've got good momentum.

A newer game that's fast paced action is screen cheat. Not a conventional FPS but very fun, and due to the recent inclusion in a humble bundle, the amount of people playing it right now is pretty decent. You can always wait for the new unreal tournament, or participate in the beta. It's pretty good as well.
Don't forget Nexuiz! Its seems very under rated.
