Fan TEK

Hello fans of TekSyndicate. So the gang is currently busy looking for a place to live in Portland, and therefore (understandably) can't do the TEK this week. So how about we make a list of news that would have been TEK_worthy here? Feel free to share interesting stories below, I'll edit this with links akin to what's usually located beneath the video on the website.
I'll start off with this: Win 95 has been compiled to run native in your browser: http://thenextweb.com/apps/2016/01/31/what-a-time-to-be-alive-2/

Elon Musk wants to send people to mars within the next decade: http://www.nbcnews.com/tech/tech-news/elon-musk-says-spacex-will-send-people-mars-2025-n506891

Denmark let a kidnapping plane from the US government stay in Copenhagen on it's mission to get Snowden http://cphpost.dk/news/documents-confirm-rendition-flight-used-copenhagen-airport-for-mission-to-capture-edward-snowden.html anyone surprised? Alright, you 5 year olds in the back (who shouldn't be here) can put your hands down. Man, the EU is America's bitch.

NSA might get in trouble over a backdoor policy they implemented: https://www.rt.com/usa/330660-nsa-juniper-firewall-probe/

Intel released a new low-power processor that's supposed to be just as efficient as it's predecessor, while being much faster: http://techfrag.com/2016/01/28/intel-launches-14nm-braswell-entry-level-processors-for-mobile-and-desktop/

Goodbye Safe Harbor: http://europa.eu/rapid/press-release_SPEECH-16-208_en.htm

CALL FOR HELP: If anyone reading this has any insightful commentary on the more technical side of these news, please leave them below. While I find these things fascinating, I am not nearly well versed enough to be able to compose a qualified commentary on such things. I've also posted this on the subreddit, so if you want to see what's going on there here's a link: https://www.reddit.com/r/TekSyndicate/comments/43otk2/fan_tek/

Electrons and Liquid Helium Advance Understanding of Zero-Resistance

"""
Atomic and molecular sizes cannot be changed, but the heat problem is not unsolvable. Recent research has shown that in two-dimensional systems, including semiconductors, electrical resistance decreases and can reach almost zero when they are subjected to magnetic and microwave influence.

Research conducted by the Quantum Dynamics Unit at Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST) could represent an important step in understanding two-dimensional semiconductors. The Unit's latest paper, published in Physical Review Letters, describes anomalies in the behaviour of electrons in electrons on liquid helium two-dimensional system.

Motion sickness is the product of mismatched sensory information.

“The classic example is reading in a car,” says Shawn Green, UW–Madison psychology professor. “Lots of people can’t read in a car because if you have a newspaper in front of you, your visual system says you’re still.” But you’re not still. While the newspaper may not be moving, the car speeds up and slows down, turns corners and climbs hills. All this movement registers in the vestibular system, a series of organs in the ear that aid balance by telling us which way is up.

“In the car, those balance cues say you’re accelerating, and that’s a big mismatch with your eyes on the still newspaper,” Green says. “That mismatch makes you nauseous.”

Oculus produces that mismatch in reverse, according to Bas Rokers, UW–Madison psychology professor and a co-author on the study published in the journal Entertainment Computing with Green, graduate student Brian Allen and recent graduate Taylor Hanley. While the 3-D movies depicted flying over forests and under bridges, the headset and the viewer aren’t actually moving.

...
Rokers and Green found that the people in their study who reported the most discomfort were also best at judging the direction of objects moving toward or away from them.

A group of scholars look to early 20th century radio technology to help improve Internet security

Discusses quantum light and the idea of the 'quantum' internet in regards to data security, etc. Light on information, but an interesting concept nonetheless.

I would be REALLY, REALLY upset if a fucking 7 foot wide bird swooped in and wrecked my $1400 drone I was using to film lakes, woods, rivers and shit

then again its probably for urban areas

Yeah its brilliant ☺

The Eagle thing has got to be the most bad ass thing I think I have ever seen. I would almost pay to see this.

I love the irony in this

It is pretty funny that they are trying to do that. You don't see it in the GIF but after he cashed the drone he tries to land and smashed in to the wall. That go's to show that the idea of using a hawk to take down drones is quite stupid..

What if you are flying your drone, doing it perfectly legal, and out of nowhere that hawk catches the drone and smashes in to a tree..

its only used wenn a suspicious drone flys in area´s that they are not allowed to.

Millions of years of natures work more effective than 'anti drone drones'
nature is beautiful.
