I'll make this brief. I currently have no gaming PC, only a Thinkpad W520 which I use for work & general personal use. It is blazing fast for everything except gaming due to the Quadro 1000M. I have played older games on it with low-ish settings OK, but now getting pretty competitive in Dirt Rally, and the graphic performance just isn't allowing me to play well, not to mention low settings is atrocious.
My friend wants to sell his old rig. Specs here, I left out the non-important details like optical drive, wireless card http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/9kQVrH
He put the "bro price" at $380 CAD when he thought it had a GTX 660 in it, rather than the 560 it actually has.
I'm not a huge gamer but would like to get my feet wet and be able to play high 1080 on Dirt Rally. What do you guys think is a fair price to offer on this? Or should I look elsewhere?
I just sold a Q6600 3.0GHz quad core + HD7870 + 8GB Ballistix RAM with 2 x 1.5TB RAID0 HDDs and a quality Antec case + 720W Enermax PSU to another Tek member at a generous price and that equates to ~$350 cad (from UK £)
The HD7870 @ 1200 MHZ was able to play recent games at 1080p but it was better at 1650x1050 really. I would be looking at a GTX660 TI or HD7970 minimum for 1080p gaming.
My other spare system is an i5 3570K + 16 GB RAM + GTX670 2GB. Though it just falls short of the VR requirements it's playing Far Cry 4 for example at 1080p with high settings and no stuttering/tearing etc. The CPU is definitely the stronger component though in that system. if i were to advertise that then UK to CAD would be about $600-650 just for comparison.
