Was shredding a drive and it locked up so hit reset and booted to grub rescue. My boot drive says “failure reading sectors 0-2” or something like that. booted to gparted live and the file system isn’t showing up. tried fsck, no file system. Went back into gparted to try to recover data and it’s been spinning for an hour. I’m going to let it go until morning but on a scale of 1 to failure, where am I?
It’s a little kingston 256gb 2.5" ssd if that matters.
having a bad week with linux. This is my general purpose server for storage and VMs, and on top of that my fedora 33 primary workstation won’t boot and just hangs on load in. log isn’t pointing anywhere specific, but that will be another thread.
Have you looked at your BIOS, may have changed or drive not detected correctly. Drive may have damaged driver board. (Kingston SSDs has given problems with Linux in past for me, SanDisk/Patriot for solid cheap equivalents)
Clonezilla the drive on expert settings with retry set to 1 and continue/skip on error get an image. Have recovered many RAID arrays with this process. Big learning curve with Clonezilla but fantasic tool.
