Eyefinity adapter question

I have had my 7850 running with a 19" 1440x900 monitor, i want to buy another two of these monitors because i found a really cheap set of two. I am currently using the DVI on the card to connect my monitor.

Could anyone recommend how i could connect two more and with which adapters. I have heard i need an active thunderbolt to VGA adapter and couldn't find any on amazon that were said to be "active". I am really confused! Help me please.

are the monitors vga or dvi? if dvi you would connect to the other dvi port an use an active dvi-displayport adapter

if vga you would need a vga-hdmi adapter on one and a vga-displayport adapter, displayport is all digital so if it can convert to vga it will be active

Depends exactly which 7850 you have.  The connections vary between models and manufacturers somewhat.  If it has 2 DVI connections, use those and an active DVI-Displayport (or mini displayport, which ever your card has) adapter to hook up a third.  If it only has one DVI connection, then use that and two active DVI-Displayport adapters.  etc. etc.

Of course, all that assumes your monitors don't have a displayport connection.  For more specific advice, post what version of the 7850 you have, and/or post a picture of of the back.  The model of your monitor would be helpful as well.

I have the MSI HD 7850 Power Edition with 2 mini display ports, a hdmi and a DVI.

I know i should use active adapters, but no adapters specify whether they are active or passive!

ummm... they should... i bought an active DP-> DVI off amazon, about 3 months ago....

Are you from the UK? None of them say that they're active.

The mini display port to DVI adapters do, not the vga ones. Is that just me being stupid?

Is there a reason you are looking for VGA adapters instead of DVI adapters?  Do your monitors not have DVI?

And yes, it should tell you whether it is active or passive, even for VGA adapters.  Though, honestly, you should be able to tell just by looking at them.  Active adapters are more bulky to make room for the onboard converter.  Here's a couple examples of VGA to miniDP active adapters:

Edit: *Ignore all that in the black up there.  Brain fart*

Post links to the ones you are looking at and we can probably tell you what they are.  But again, if your monitors have DVI inputs, I'd suggest going that route.

I have the MSI HD 7850 Power Edition with 2 mini display ports, a hdmi and a DVI.

Yeah.  Use the DVI and the two mini DP connections with active adapters (though, technically, you would only need one active adapter.  The other could be passive if you wished and still work fine).

well, vga should be an active adapter anyways, as the signal is converted from digital to analog...

Yeah, you're right.  I was thinking passively powered and my stupid brain mashed the two together for some reason.  All VGA adapters would obviously need to be active in order to function by their very nature.  Screw you brain!  You're going to get it tonight...  nothing but tequila and whiskey.  And none of that top shelf shit.  It's bottom of the well for you.  Sorry liver, you're gonna have to take one for the team.

Thank you kind sir.
