Extremely slow SMB Shares on Unraid

I can’t figure out why my Unraid SMB shares are so painfully slow at ~10MB/s with an SSD cache.

Here is my system specs. As you can see my ethernet adapter shows as 1Gb/s, so that does not appear to be the issue.

Here is the Media Vault share which shows as Cached

Yet when I copy to it I see super slow speeds

I also see these slow speeds moving the files in the other direction

Most of the time the cache drive will show as 0B/s and then jump up to a high speed momentarily. I assume it is being copied to RAM and dumped to the SSD? Weird behavior since the disk can clearly handle more.

When I turn on the VPN on my phone and stream 4k video I can see the network usage go way past 100mb/s so that tells me Unraid doesn’t seem to be lying about it being a gigabit link…

I’m honestly out of ideas

How is the adapter on the Windows machine looking? Maybe it has a fault somewhere, or is missing a driver.

iperf3 is available on unraid. I would suggest using it with a Windows iperf3 client to ensure that networking is unaffected before focusing on disk io performance.

I see about the same throughput with iperf3

FFS… I just checked my windows machine’s throughput to the internet… it is also limit to 100mb/s there too. WTF, this just must have happened recently otherwise I would have noticed it when doing a game download. I quickly checked in device manager and see the ethernet controller showing as a gigabit intel 1221. I’m sure this used to be gigabit. I did recently also reinstall windows to go from 10 to 11… I’ll have to debug a bit more later tonight

Fixed it!

I changed the setting here from AUTO.

No clue why it was negotiating down to 100mbps instead, but it seems to be fine now.

Thanks guys for pointing out the obvious. I figured it was the server the whole time…
