Extremely bad internet, PLEASE HELP

Hey people... I've been having giant network problems recently... The internet's been soooooo slow its hard to do much of anything.. but i recently found the problem. A guest (WHO'S GONNA BE HERE FOR 3 FUCKING MONTHS, i don't hate him, but i cant go that long with bad internet) and his lenovo S10 netbook were hogging all the fucking bandwith... I don't know why, he doesn't even use a fucking browser, just windows live messenger and ICQ, its retarded. I know its him because i booted everybody off the network and connected them one by one, and when i reconnected him, it began lagging again.

Please, if anybody knows the cause of this horrible problem, please help me.

what type of router are you using? some of the newer models have QOS built in and prioritizes such programs (as messenger) to higher bandwidth allocations, for streaming video. voice. whatever.

or...hes an alien, and he is eating the bandwidth...with his mind.

If you can find a way you can cap his bandwidth and that should work.

Fuck i have no idea how to do that. Could a virus cause this?

Anyway, to SeanDestroys, i have a older Linksys WRT54GS, no bandwidth prioritizing there....

see what the software can enable you to do you may be able to at least block some servises and maybe a bandwidth cap.

sounds like some type of malicious software,

yeah, i'll run a antivirus or trendmicro when the guy gets back home.
