Getting ready to purchase parts for my computer, but I've never build a desktop. Should I bother with getting an extended warranty (beyond the manufacturers')? I've had my laptop for over 5 years and still runs great. Only issue I had was a hard drive failing on me.
P.s. sorry if this is posted in the wrong section. Really didn't know where else to post. If an admin could move it or something that would be appreciated.
There's usually no need. If your not in Europe check exactly what the warranty says. In EU, then you have a minimum 2 year manufacture warranty on all parts.
If it's dirty cheap (20 to 30$) I would totally go for it because you'll never know when something may fail on you and invest a small amount of money can save you a couple hundred bucks of shipping and repearing if needed.
This also depends on when you plan on upgrading next. Do you upgrade every 3 years, every 5 years, or run it until it breaks. Do you plan on overclocking? I know newegg offers an accidental damage protection plan. The one for video cards is around $50. If you are new to this normally you can overclock to your hearts content. You could nuke your video card and get it replaced for $50. I just wouldn't tell them you were overclocking it. So if you are worried about screwing up your hardware, and extra $50 to protect a $400 + video card for an extra 3 years may be worth it.
