External Hard Drive

I was thinking of getting a 1TB external hard drive because im am running low on space but i have a few questions. Is it possible to install a game on the external hard drive and play it? Could i install a OS on it and boot from external hard drive? Would there be a decrease in performance?

External hard drives vary in speed. If you run a USB external drive, it will go a huge amount slower than normal hard drives. ESata is still slower than normal Sata, but faster than USB. You can install an OS on an external drive, but boot times will be dog shit slow. I recommend you just buy an internal hard drive.

1) Buy internal 3.5mm hard drive
2) Buy external enclosure
3) Thank me for not getting raped in prices and speeds.

That confuses me, as far as I'm aware, internal hard drives require a 5 pin SATA power connector. Would he just tug one of those out of his case?

I recommend he just mount it in his case, it's just better.

just get one of these

External hard drives should ONLY be used for storage, not to run an OS off of or games.

Would you install your OS on a flash drive and leave it plugged in at all times?

Last time I left mine plugged in for several days, that chip went hot as. But no OS or any other shit was installed on it.

Oh, I haven't told anyone yet that I got my 1TB external drive and now I felt like a moron. Could've gotten an enclosure and a internal drive -_- Oh well, this one would suit fine for backups and transfer.

Do certain hard drive work with certain computer? I have an old computer and not sure if it even supports another drive.

.........

Man o man guys, the threads these days...

Don't blame on us

if ur computer has a sata port and the hard drive uses sata it will work.... thats like asking if a usb drive only works on some computers....
