id really like to get an external gpu for my laptop. ive heard somethings about vidcok and a few other products, but wouldnmt the 1x connection speed bottleneck my gpu. the gpu will probably be an r9 290. also wont my cpu bottleneck it to, its a 3630qm and i havent overclocked it yet.
For external GPUs you want to go with something that uses 150W or less, as most of those boxes come with only 2 PCI-E power connectors. I've heard of people using the GTX 750 Ti for these as it requires none of that, and it's not bottlenecked by most higher end laptops.
well ive seen 780 tis, but power concern isnt my concern, my concern is will the 1x connection of a mere 5gb a second, bottleneck my gpu. a 16x slot is like 80gb, so how much will it bottleneck my gpu.
How do you plan on interfacing with said card? Your only real performance option is to use a thunderbolt caddy. Which unless you have a Mac or a high end laptop you most props don't have.
express card or mpcie.
