Ok on both pcs I have I am really running out of room and while I have deleted games that I clearly wasn't going to play or games that have been terminated I once in awhile run into problems where there is not enough space to update a game and so I was thinking of transferring some games to an external hard drive. I have seen examples on the net saying it works and people gave examples of games it worked for but others say no. I know that my hard drive are USB 3.0 compatible and I do have USB 3.0 connections to use on the pcs so will this work? I want to hear experiences on this from L1 members. Thanks for taking the time to read this.
I mean you can use USB if you really want to but it'll run like trash.
If you copy over the game folder under steamapps/common/whatever
(with the same folder structure) as well as the appmanifest_###.acf
file for the specific game over to the external drive and add the path as a Steam Library folder under Settings > Downloads > Steam Library Folders
you can play the game directly from the usb drive. I would recommend you assign the library folder on Steam before you start copying games over to the drive. This will create a SteamLibrary directory which will be the root for all your Steam games and as long as the folder structure under this root is the same you can copy games back and forth as you like.
