Experience with 14.9 AMD drivers anyone?

Haven't yet download the new driver, but reports say it's a hit or miss.

Pros

some claim they're getting 140fps 1080p in BF4 using 7970 CF

others claim you will get 20% more performance quad fire

now im reading you're gpu will run 10c cooler with the 14.9 driver.

Cons

im getting large suttering in some games and I lost 20 fps compared to 14.4 drivers

As you can see in the sell/buy section. I'm in the process of selling my Asus 7970's, but if they're no longer 85c operational and 30 more fps with CF. I'll mosfly keep them till the dye cracks.

opinions anyone?

I was able to start running my hybrid high/ultra settings on BF4 with my 7950 with ~90 fps I think, instead of the medium/ultra I had to do before.

I haven't played any other games, but I did notice there was a lot of stutter when first loading a map in BF4.

I see. Seems that bf4 is everyone's game. I'm more of a rpg skyrim and metro last light type of player. This afternoon I'll give the drivers a try hopefully it will make me want to keep my 7970's another year.

With 14.9 I can finally play Wolfenstien : New Order because it doesn't run like ass anymore.  I also played some CS : GO no stuttering.  I am running an Asus R9 280x DC2.

Sounds promising. Maybe I can play 4k gaming long as I don't memory cap.

It fixed my Prototype 2 from lagging after 15 to 30 minutes of gameplay though, but not the crash that occurs after 1 hour of gameplay.

Having bad luck. 14.9 locks my pc when loading gaming. Talk about BS disappointment. Makes me want to use my 7970's as door stoppers.

will try a full hd format.

Update: Got the 14.9 driver to work, but had to format my HD which wasn't cool. Come to find out AMD uninstall manager didn't delete all the C++ scripts.

But

it effect my overclock and had to switch to default for some odd reason.

im using the RE 6 benchmark that's free on steam as a comparison. It shows a live chart of how the crossfire scales. The score was minimal compared to 14.7 driver but with less suttering/better overall scaling. Seems the cards work a lot better with each other. Will have to do other benchmarks for satisfy my own opinion.

so I am running an XFX Black Edition R9 280x crossfire with a XFX Double Dissipation ghost edition 7970. I had zero problems running this setup before 14.9. Now I can't play COD: Ghosts, BF4, WoW, Diablo III, Skyrim, NFS: Hot Pursuit, Crysis 3, Farcry 3, Murdered Soul Suspect, Thief and a few others. So I did the trouble shooting uninstalled CCC, went into safe mode tried to remove anything else CCC related ensuring generic drivers. Rebooted in normal mode reinstalled 14.9, same issues. Repeated process except I redownloaded 14.9 then reinstalled same issue. I sent 4 emails and filled out 3 different surveys on AMD no response as of yet except for the usual automated mumbo jumbo.

Sadly I went back to AMD to download the previous CCC and they do not make this easy. On top of all this I finally disabled crossfire and noticed performance loss and increased temps from when I originally tested my R9 280x by itself. So I went so far as to remove my 7970 and redid the uninstall reinstall process and still getting same results. I did however recieve slight improvements on the 7970 by itself but only in MURDERED Soul Suspect and BF4. Crysis 3 was maybe %2-%4 better not sure.

So in all my experience with 14.9 has been very negative, I have spent the last 2 days trying to get back to just a constant 60fps not to mention the 100+ I was getting before in most games.

The 980 is looking very sexy right now and I have been using AMD/ATI GPU's since the first model ATI. Oh well hopefully they fix this soon. Or the 3xx series pulls some voodoo magic.

Oh also tried underclocking the 280x and overclocking the 7970 so they match in GPU and Memory performance. Also monitoring programs such as NZXT CAM, HWmonitor and FRAPS cause issues with 14.9 for me or just don't run.

Hope you all have better luck than I have so far.

I have a HD 7950, and haven't noticed any problems with 14.9

I mainly play Team Fortress 2 and GMod though, which aren't GPU intensive.  I haven't tested my 1100/1500 overclock yet either.  I should go do that now, and maybe give thief a run.

//edit: Ran all the games that I play and everything seems fine, even when overclocked.  Thief is no problem as well.

Did you check out the potential fix I dropped on you topic in edit: GPU not PC Gaming. It is a known issue. That game is pretty broken.

I have a 7870 so I doubt I will see much improvement but I installed 14.9 last night so I will see what's it like today.

Its always very helpful to keep some older driver versions on your machine, that did run well.

If you're still having issues then need to format your hd. i was having the same issues till I did a full re install. Yes you should never have to. Yes 980 is looking good about now. I'm going to try to re overclock my cpu this week and hope it won't lock my screen. if they new drivers still don't allow me to have full control again over my over clocking my gpu and cpu I'll be going team green again.

Amd you need to be bang for buck products again. Period.

Update: I've been playing skyrim for a few days now. My GPU's run 5c cooler and much less fan noise. Suttering isn't as often, and some odd reason the game looks brighter. As of now i can see a slight differents.

Downside is I had to format my HD to install 14.9 and even knowing i'm a lover at bang for buck GPU's. GTX 970 just seems like a better option if I was to re-build a new PC. Being that my mint 7970's isn't worth half of what I paid for them, i'll just keep rocking them intill 1440p becomes to demanding for cutting edge games.
