I am an ex-chef returned to school for CS and i was wondering if there are anyone else(either via training or experience) from the culinary field floating around?
I just cook six or seven nights a week for three to five people. I do find it enjoyable to cook at home, but I don't think I would last in a restaurant environment.
I'm not, though I do love cooking, and replicating, altering, or creating recipes and such.
I have been tossing around the idea of starting up a food truck so I might have to pick your brain some.
I have 15 years cooking in steak and seafood restaurants, its been 12 years since I left the industry but I love cooking and have a natural talent for it. My friends and family are quite spoiled.
How about some salmon
The briquettes in the back are a nice touch :-)
It is hard and unrewarding work ^_^ just kidding its actually very rewarding its just super hard to get any where with it.
What sort of food do you like to cook? What is your favorite?
Yeah feel free? Food trucks depend a lot the environment you're in, the demand for certain types of food and the saturation of the market. If you wan't I know a bit about em, I helped a friend put together the outlines of his business plan for a south east asian inspired food truck that's currently killing it in Las Vegas.
Also might want to get the input of trevsstrem down below, (s)he has more experience than me, even 12 years out.
I like everything more or less. I have a rough time with Asian food (mainly because somebody always tries to 'help' when I'm making it), but other than that I try out new things all the time. My 'favorite' dish would probably be a quick and dirty Alfredo with onions, red bell peppers, spinach, and either chouriço or chicken and bacon. I also like making chili because I can play with a recipe pretty easily if I want.
i still manage a restaurant part time (seasonal), lookin at school, may end up doing it if i got back to the restaurant this summer. Rest of the time i work on automation programming for pneumatic tube systems, installations, troubleshooting, ect.
gotta say though, there's parts of the restaurant i just love. i miss it when i'm gone for a while.
