EVGA GTX 670 vs?

I'm trying to build a system for the first time so I'm kinda not very experienced. I have picked a GPU I am willing to pay for. at most I will pay is 380$ (trying to save money) : The EVGA GTX 670 is the ideal card I have picked for Nvidia. The problem is that when I look on sites to see benchmarks comparisons etc. I find that it is always different on two different sites. Like one site's forum will say that the 670 is great cause it will be future proof and cuda so WINNING! Where as other sites will say oh no you can overclock the 7950 to way over the performance of a 670 no problem but never specify which vendor. I do want to get the most for my money but at the same time I just can't seem to find a card at the same price that is AMD and is better. So I guess this is my question: Which AMD card is the equal counter-part to the 670 on AMD's side. Final note: I'm not going to overclock the GPU because I am already OCing the CPU.

3.9

Eric

If your not going to overclock go for the 670 and yes the 7950 is pretty much the 670's counter-part.

For $380, you could afford a 7970. Which is the 680's equivalent.

Thanks I had a feeling the 7950 was the counter-part but I have seen some benchmarks where the 670 was on par or even over the 7970's frame rate.

those are probably old benchmarks

since the 12.11 drivers, the 7950 has been even or 5-10% faster than the 670

Hmmm. Yes, some games and benchmarks prefer NVidia cards, while some AMD. 7970 or 670, you can't go wrong either way

On new egg I've only seen ones as low as 390-560$ and I know I'm going to come off as cheep here but I'm basically searching my couch for pocket change to pay for this system now, I'm all but finished with it however. Thankfully

Yeah but it's only a matter of time until Nvidia releases their new drivers which will cycle on and on, better and better. Thanks for that note though

Thanks for all the advice I think I might be swayed to go for the Sapphire 7950 because at 200 bucks I'll be able to pay 50 less for it.

Iv got a couple of questions.....

Why are you not going to overclock the GPU?

Why are CUDA cores Important to you?

And it seems no one has asked what your going t be doing with your computer, games, CAD, Editing Video, Adobe CS, porn, looking at videos of cats?

Wait, $200? Where are you buying?

*300

1. I don't want to melt my PC with my limited priced cooling (minus the CPU cooling H100)

2. cuda isn't for me this is a primary gaming rig. The WINNING was quoting the forum

And about porn, Ive got a tv and Cinemax, I'm covered

Video card are excellent at chucking there heat out the back of your case....you wont see a huge case temp increase with overclocking a GPU and any that you do see can normal be ofset with the cards software fan profiles in the overclocking software.

If your gaming the 7950 with a overclock will murder a 670

.......but what about videos of cats?

Well there's always hope for weird hentai on Cinemax
