So I know there has been a lot of posts about gtx 660 ti vs the Radeon Hd 7950. Yet the EVGA ftw Sig2 version seemed to be clocked much higher than the average 660ti, plus its overclockable (to a certain extent). Thus I was wondering how a card like this (can't find recent benchmarks) would compare to a similary priced Radeon Hd 7950.
The EVGA card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130837
I'll be using this primarily for gaming :
Borderlands 2
Crysis 3
Etc.
I also use photoshop and primere for school projects (not professionally).
Are there any good 7950 cards in the same price range that I would benefit more from?
Well, a 7950, with the new drivers, beats the 660 ti in most games. However, games like Borderlands 2 use PhysX which is an Nvidia technology. You can still use PhysX with AMD cards but it's not as good as with Nvidia cards. The 660 ti also has CUDA cores, which in my opinion are overrated, which allow the editing program to give tasks to the GPU instead of making the CPU carry the full weight of the project. You can find a ton of 7950's for $300 on Newegg, tigerdirect, and Amazon. Oh and clock speeds on video cards to not transfer to better performance, so don't necessarily look for that when buying a GPU.
7950 is much faster than a 660TI now, even the 7870 beats the 660TI after all the Driver updates, a 7950 compares more directly with a GTX 670 and when OC'd usually beats it at pretty much everything.
From what I've heard the 7950 will perform slightly better than the 660 ti although I've heard the 7950 has pretty big spikes in fps http://techreport.com/review/23981/radeon-hd-7950-vs-geforce-gtx-660-ti-revisited/4
In the end I would definitly get the 7950 especially now as it comes with codes for Bioshock infinite and Crysis 3.
