Everything possible I can do to clean up a computer?

My friend wants me to clean up his computer since its running slow and I want to make sure I clean up everything without missing a thing...windows 7 and pretty sure a lot of porn

That part about the porn had me laughing my ass off, my hat is off to you, sir.

ccleaner. And you can run a virus scan. Thats about all i can contribute. Porn doenst help :3

Use a (weak) leafblower to get all the shit and dust out of there first. Then run a full virus scan, using something like malwarebytes. Clear all the temp folders. Porn probably won't slow it down. And finally go into the control panel and find uninstall/change a programme, from there uninstall everything and anything that looks suspicious or uneccessary.

It could also be running slow from loads of bloatware that was never removed when the computer was purchased (if purchased from an OEM).  I would do everything already mentioned and then also run msconfig and make sure only necessary items are starting when the computer starts up.  There could be a horde of programs beginning at startup and just gobbling resources that don't need to be running.

you can also go into <system configuration> and then to the "services" & "startup" tabs and then unselect you don't need to have running. I keep skype off on startup because it uses to many resourcses. Think of you computer starting up with alot of things selected like trying to accelerate in high gear- It's slow but you'll eventually get there. Unselect things to "lighten the load"

I unselected adobe reader, logitech downloader, skype, steam client, logitech quick cam, java, skype updater adobe acrobat... jada jada jada, you get the point. Do you need all these thigns running in the background? NO. I now have 41 processes running in TaskManager when i boot.

DO NOT UNSELECT THINGS YOU'RE UNSURE OF. things like Intel(R) and Microsoft Corporation stuff and others are driver and system related. [basically required for system boot up]

Use all in on system maintenance tool and good luck its always best to just wipe stuff like that and start over.

DELETE THE TEMP FOLDER

If you're lazy, just run CCleaner and a virus scan like stated earlier.

A great alternative for CCleaner is TuneUp Utilities, it has a few more features yet still very easy to use.

(it costs, but available with a 15-day free trial)

What I do at work is

  1. Clear off all the start-up programs
  2. uninstall unwanted software (using Revo)
  3. run ccleaner (cleaner and registry a few times)
  4. Run the online virus scan on eset.com
  5. install avast and run a virus scan

Thats the process, also defrag the hard drive
