Error code 2d on ASRock Creator

Hello,

I needed to replace the RAM modules on my workstation. To do so, I also had to remove the cooler.

Specs:
ASRock Creator wrx80 r2
AMD TR 5955 wx pro
4x128 RAM
Noctua D9 cooler

What I did:

  • Unplugged everything
  • Grounded myaelf and put on gloves
  • Unscrewed cooler and took out RAM modules
  • Re-inserted everything

Now the motherboard shows error code 2d

Where did I mess up?

I’d let the motherboard sit for 10-30 minutes at that 2D post code, I think it might be initializing/training memory which might take awhile.

Unfortunately it’s still showing the same code after ~40mins.

I might have messed up the CPU placement when unscrewing the cooler.

It’s also possible that the CPU isn’t making good enough contact with the socket causing the POST code. The bigger CPUs like threadripper are pretty sensitive to getting enough pressure to get good electrical contact on all the pins.

How confident are you that you screwed the cooler down “tight enough”?
There should be a torque specification to attach the cooler if you have a torque wrench/screwdriver.

I just double-checked and the cooler screws are prerty tight. Perhaps the CPU moved a bit and I need to take it out?

Or I could try and flush the CMOS.

Edit:
Since the manual says for error codes 00-19 “Please check if the CPU is installed correctly and then clear the CMOS.” it’s probably best to reseat the CPU.

Can I do this safely?
