amd is guilty for putting 8GB on 4GB models. Ripping people off.

No one is perfect.

Damn them, damn them to heck!

You know when you're in a VR, and you see everyone using

HTC Vive and you don't know what the Display Port is for.

When you launched your GPU first and your friends are arguing whether the correct port was HDMI or DP but what you got was Not Ready.

Now maybe the nvititards will shut up for a while.

A few folks in this thread need to remove the sticks from their asses. Anything to take shots at Nvidia, I guess.

Combing through the few threads I can find, 900 series works, but 1000 series DP->Mini DP does not. DP->HDMI works for many people, but not for others (though this might be attributed to differences in cables). HDMI works for pretty much all, and well it should, since that's the preferred input method for the Vive. Looking at the specs for the cards on Nvidia's website, the 980 is DP 1.2 certified, while the 1070/1080 have DP 1.2 certified, 1.3/1.4 ready. Maybe whatever makes them 1.3/1.4 ready is breaking compatibility with the Vive. Maybe a driver update from Nvidia will fix it, maybe not. Maybe it's a problem with the Vive and it's DP implementation. Lots of variables and not a lot of information at this point. Of course I'm sure I'll just be pegged as an Nvidia apologist here for reading things and using my head, because reasons.

It's not clear whether he's connecting the Vive via HDMI or DP->Mini DP. There are a few threads on Reddit right now asking for people that have an RX 480 and a Vive to test via the Mini DP and report back.

I'm kind of surprised this is only coming to light now. I mean, the 1080 has been out over a month. The two threads on the Nvidia forums are about a month old. The article in the OP is from today, like they just found out about it. That makes me think it's not really affecting too many people. I'd bet that most people that have a 1080/1070 and a Vive are hooking it up via HDMI or DP -> HDMI.

I thought you meant in general, not necessarily DVI or DP

Ah. In general, the Vive works on the 1080 and 1070 as well. The issue seems to be specifically with the DP connection.

I wonder if that is the DP standard, not AMD or Nvidia

Across DP versions maybe. They do appear to have different versions of DP. 1.2 on the 480 and 1.4 on the 1080.

That's what I'm thinking. I mentioned it in my wall above. I read a post on Reddit that discusses it a bit and someone suggested that it should be addressable in a driver update, but Nvidia has been pretty much silent on the issue for a month or so now.

EDIT: That's also not 100% accurate for the 480, though. According to AMD's website, the 480 is actually 1.3 HBR / 1.4 HDR Ready. Both it and the 1080 are 1.2 Certified, though, so that's why it'd be interesting to see if the same issue might occur via the DP on the 480.

Hmm. Well have to wait and see. It might not be DP and just be drivers, nvidia hasnt been very good (to say the least) in recent times for me.

I hope they fix it for all the people they ripped off with the overpriced cards.
The least they could do is give them good driver support.

Mis-take....
