Hi all.
Ive been reading through the different posts about the following motherboards: SM H11SSL-i, H12SSL-i and the Tyan S8030 GM2NE.
I want to rebuild my current homeserver, to a machine that utilizes a PCIe x16 to 4X U.2 adapter, like what Jeyi or glotrends make, since i have 12 left over D7-P5500 devices laying around.
Looking at ebay i see that the price of the H11SSL-i with a CPU is fairly reasonable, but the H12SSL is almost twice the price currently. I know the H12 series is PCIe 4.0 ofcause makes it more expensive.
In comes the Tyan S8030 gM2NE board, and its similarly priced to the H11 series, and im wondering what would make it a bad choice compared to the SuperMicro board?
Ive seen @wendell 's review of all the boards, and while they dont go into super depth about bifurcation, from what i can gather all the boards support 4x4x4x4 on all their PCIe slots, which is what i basically need.
Is the Tyan just a worse board, or has the SM traditionally been recommended because the price was more reasonable than it is currently?
Ive also looked for the Asrock Rack ROME, but it does not seem to have great availability.
