Hmm… This makes me wonder something about Optane.
It is relatively low density compared to Flash-based storage, right?

So what if Intel just slapped 2-bit cells on it, screwed their super-heating magic to it and wrote a proper controller?

I don’t think 3dxpoint (optane) tech works in the same way as nand flash, so I dont’t think 2 bit cells on 3dxpoint would actually work.
However, optane is still a 1st gen product right now and the 2nd gen of optane is going to be released soon. So, maybe in a few years or even a decade, 3dxpoint could eventually catch up with nand flash anyways.
