I know that in the past the Enermax Liqtech AIO for Threadripper has been known to die due to contamination in the coolant.
However, I realized that Enermax seems to offer a new 5 year warranty for units that are purchased after 2/2021 (LIQTECH II TR4 360mm aRGB Liquid CPU Cooler – Enermax USA)
Has anyone tried one of these “newer” units? Is the issue still present?
It seems that Enermax is the only vendor that offers a correctly sized Threadripper plate (in a closed loop product). Is this still the case?
I’ve done a tremendous amount of research in this space over the last couple of years and ended up refilling a unit with off-the-shelf coolant, that was in 2019 and it’s still in service today without issue.
There is also a cooler master (masterliquid ml360 tr4) that has an appropriately sized coldplate but the fins inside still only cover a “standard” sized cpu.
Would love to hear from someone running a stock LiqTech these days and how it’s holding up because I too am curious.
If you live near a Micro Center, I’d get one from them and spring for the extended warranty. For those of us using Threadripper, the downtime is often more expensive than the replacement cooler, but it’s nice to at least have that peace of mind from the retailer.
I keep a spare TR4 air cooler around (in my case the Wraith Ripper, not the best cooler but probably the easiest cooler I’ve ever installed on any platform ever) just in case my AIO ever fails on me.
It’s not actually the fluid that’s bad, I’ve replaced it several times
See the material the housing is made of is similar to that of concrete, it only has paint protecting it, and if there is a spot that liquid touches that isn’t protected then the grainy material begins to deteriorate and flake off clogging the flow
