Emulator/Party Laptop

So my Gigabyte P27K has melted and I get my money back (1.500$) from Amazon. By now I bought myself a Desktop PC that I use for gaming when I’m at home.
I often to do gaming parties, where I play games that are great in groups, stuff like the Jackbox Party Pack, Stanley Parable and Her Story. I also tend to run games on Emulators, like Mario Kart.
Should I stick with a equally powerful Laptop as the one I’ve already had, or rather downgrade to something cheaper as it is overkill for what I intend to do? Weight, Size and battery life are not an issue.

Edit: I’ve also been thinking about getting a Microsoft Surface. Just afraid that the GPU can’t handle the Emulator stuff.

The CPU is going to be the main bottleneck for emulators, but that only really matters for PS2 and above

As long as you've got something with a non U i5 and like a 940m or above you should be good to go

if you want something more portable MSI's laptops aren't too bad

Do you have a trustworthy website where I can compare different MSI models?

Amazon or newegg, just search for like MSI Stealth, or Apache, or there's always alienware if you want tons of cooling
