Its certainly ok to necro this thread, IMO.
I agree with this message!
It’s been a while but if you still have your toaster read below. otherwise ignore this.
What are the symptoms of the short?, does it not turn on or does it act weird and not toast toast in the proper toasty way?
are there screws to get inside of it?
if there are screws then try to take them out after unpluging, see how easily you can get access to the elements and unshort or replace the bad one(s)
if its a bad element you may have a hard time sourcing them but its fully possible. especially if the toaster can be found cheap on ebay as faulty, then you will have all the spare parts you need
if there are no screws then you will need to try to gently pry at the plastic side panels until you find one that pops out.
if you are unsure post pics ill do my best to lead you though any issues.

Hey, sorry for the late response. Haven’t logged on here for a long time.
I do still have the toaster in the loft (attic? - storage) somewhere, I think. The problem is that it’s a glass panel toaster and the elements are embedded within the glass, as far as I can tell.
It seems to function and toast, but one side comes out toasted whilst the other is still bread. From some research online, it’s a common fault and I just got unlucky with it failing on me after years in use by my Grandad.
It does have screws but it just takes the glass panels off and there doesn’t seem to be anything I can do with them.
Thoughts?
