What the hell, wtf bethesda, all MMOs are moving a way from this system that rips off costomers so why are they heading backwards. Guild wars had some micro transactions and a price of 60 dollars so why is Bethesda doing this. I know why, they want to squeeze as much out of this franchise as possible. This mmo will be a massive failure and people will see it as the one of the great tech failures of recent years.
Ok, first of all, it's not a 'start up fee' it's called buying the game. I've played a ridiculous amount of MMO's to decipher an important difference between p2p and f2p and b2p. There are still MMO's coming out that follow the p2p method, so I wouldn't say MMO's are moving away from it, it's just a lot have begun failing and then going f2p out of desperation. P2p exists so the developers can make the money back that they had put into the creation of the game. Don't expect a company to spend millions and then just give the product away for free. LoL will not be used as an example for a successful f2p game since it was created on a low budget and made an immense amount of profit through micro transactions. People end up spending more money on games that are b2p and f2p because there are things that are locked unless purchased (the micro transactions). When it is a p2p model, the content is available to everyone. Every f2p MMO I've ever played has been garbage. GW2 being b2p was better, but still ultimately ended up being boring after hitting max level. Give the game a chance and if you love it enough, then you'll pay for it monthly. Most people spend more than $15 per month on other useless things anyway.
Also, p2p helps keep out the annoying kids and lets the adults with jobs be the main population of said game. This fact alone I think is worth $15 per month.
P2p also eliminates the possibility of pay-to-win.
Why did this get moved to PC gaming, its for consoles as well and its the general section which means anything can be there and this wasnt about the game I was just mad with the payment model.
Meh, I probably won't bother with it at first. There's other games out there. Although, if it's a decent game that offers plenty of content for the money, I may give it a shot. We'll just have to wait and see.
I also think $5-10 per month would have been more reasonable.
Should just do it like GW2, $60 for the game and you're good. Looks like I won't be playing ESO any time in the near future, and I'm sure many others won't be either.
Yeah, I don't mind this model at all, if something is worth it then pay for it, and hopefully that translates to high quality add-on content that everyone can access.
I currently play a f2p game that people who've reached max level have put in literally hundreds, and some probably thousands to get access to necessary items to get there.
Thousands, no offense but that is just bullshit, you shouldn't have to pay that much for a game. No game is worth that and I couldn't give a crap if its the best game on the planet, if it didn't cost that much to make it they shouldn't charge and make 20 times how much it took to make the game.
It'd be more like 4-6 games if were talking about PC here. And unless your really really into the game it just is a rip off in my view, even if it is a huge game, one game just gets a little boring after a bit and you want something new.
20 times is a bit exagerated. A game of that caliber must have costed $40 million at least. MMO's never have high sales rates until later on when it catches on, like WoW did, that 12 million userbase took quite a bit of years to reach. I don't mind paying for a subscription based game, as long as it has lots of premium services. Servers are very expensive and there's a lot of headroom to deal with. MMO's are by far the most difficult games to make for a reason. Everquest when it came out was insane because ppl had to pay $12 way back and $15 isn't that bad comparing to how inflation is.
Is it LOTRO? Cause you gotta earn points to unlock new zones and expansions with how they have the game setup now. It was better when they had a monthly fee.
well, too each his own, i would gladly pay for this if i played mmorpg's, i dont but i still think it's mostly what its worth to an individual person. Judging by how it looks currently, it looks pretty good and interesting, so i think a lot of people will at least try it for a time.
