Personally I'm not that confident that is going to be good. But I'm not one who likes MMOs, having never played WoW and being utterly disappointed in SW:TOR
Has Bethesda ever let us down (not counting horse armor lol) I bet they will make it absolutely sick as fuck. Im personally far more exited than I should be for this game considering i dont play MMO's either
I would be much more excited if the gameplay was more like skyrim's and less like an MMO. Although it looks much better than other MMOs where you just press macros the whole time, it still is lacking the hack and slash feel.
It would be incredibly hard to make a strictly single player game into a MMO and quite frankly I'm not sure they can do it.
4 reasons.
1. It will be compared to Skryrim: This game has to live up to argueably one of the greatest RPG games of all time.
2. Multiplayer in a Singleplayer game: SW: TOR already tryed doing this but ultimately failed (Due to that im not sure). It will be very difficult to be immersed in the world with 1000's of people around you and a chat bar filling up with chatter.
3. Limitations that come with MMO's: With over thousands of MMO's floating through the internet, it's rare to find one with the extreme amount of freedom an Elder Scrolls game offers. Even if you did, the popularity of the game would definitely be little to none. Making a MMO with an Elder Scrolls amount of freedom and keeping popularity from dropping implausible and possibly impossible
4. Zenimax just isn't Bethesda: In almost all cases when another company steps in and takes over, it's never really what you expected. Of course, the change isn't always bad, Bethesda has been credited with the making of two beautifully constructed series of games, The Elder Scrolls and Fallout while Zenimax is only a infant in the gaming industry, and the chances of an infant being a first-shot hit is slim to none.
It would be interesting to see a more Skyrim like MMO. One that doesn't do the normal MMO kind of things. Think about this: Lesser characters in your server. With a reference world size of Skyrim lets say maybe 100 players. Those players however you can only chat with in a range. Finding other players would be like sort of like the real world, you must ask towns people or lords if any "heros" have been around. Possibly sending out couriers to gather heros for a quest (raid as the frequent MMO crowd would say I guess). I think what I'm getting at is more of a large scale Skyrim multiplayer rather than an Elder Scrolls MMO. I can see however some of the more lazy people not enjoying a more realistic fantasy world. But there is a crowd that likes realism kicking them in the teeth, The DayZ fans.
I just have a grievance with MMOs. They don't push graphical capabilities, paid subscribitions make it profitable to drag on a story making it boring, and personally I don't like having to play with other people. Just give me a word that has immersion and if you can make it multiplayer, then even better.
Yeah like instead of a follower (eg: lydia) drop in drop out co-op so a friend can help and follow you round. Not too sure how they would handle the dialogue with that though seeing as its not like saints row where you have linear cutscenes.
