Editing software dilemma

hello everyone,

so I was looking for a video editing software that I can use and doesn't cost as much as adobe premier. I decided that Final Cut Pro was what I wanted but then realised I'd have to get a mac or hackintosh (which I'm not prepared to do.)

Currently I use hitfilm to edit but it doesnt like using . Mov files from a Canon dslr. I also don't want to spend half a. Hour each time converting the clips to mp4

my question to you is what other video editing programs are there for windows that doesn't cost as much as adobe but is still good.

I have tried to use light works and Sony Vegas but I haven't really been able to use them well. Is the latest version if soby Vegas pro any good? I haven't looked at it yet

thank you very much for your time. Hopefully my question is answerable.

I understand your issues with hitfilm but you really should reconsider. It is one awesome piece of software. On converting footage from your canon dslr: they are h264 encoded videostreams, ideal for playback on your devices and for the web but not very good to edit directly. Yes, premiere pro and maybe final cut edits them directly but it will still be taxing on your hardware. Converting to an editing encoder like prores 422 for mac is a must. Look into editing encodings for windows that are supported by hitfilm.

Davinci resolve lite is also free, not sure about codec support though.
