Editing PC (some gaming as well)

These are the parts I am getting. Everything buy my new PSU and the RAM is already purchased.

This is what I am running now (same case, gpu, cooler, etc.)

My cpu is actually an AMD FX-8120, but they didn't even have that CPU on their list, which kind of makes me realize how shitty of a processor it actually is.

I'm curious as to how much of an benefit I'll see from this new build in:

1. Video editing (After Effects, Premiere)

2. 3D editing and rendering (After Effects, Blender, C4D)

3. Gaming (mostly AAA titles)

I'm also wondering about future upgrades. Would a second 970 be a good next purchase? Should I save up for a Quadro K4000? Or would my money be better spent elsewhere?

Thanks you guys!

Also, my current GPU will not display past the POST off of the display port. I have to unplug it until windows loads, then plug it back in. I've downloaded and redownloaded drivers. Should I call Gigabyte?

First, you should actually go checker on the Web, because you shouldnt call Gigabyte first, unless it is necessary.

Second, you could do two things: the problem with the 900 series is that because it has less memory bandwidth, it actually has the same 3d rendering and movie rendering performance or worse than the r9 280x, even though it has efficient Cuda cores(I tested both). If you can wait though for the r9 300s series in February, you should.

Last thing, for content creation, you have excellent parts, though having 32gigs of RAM is too much: go in LinusTechTips and you will see... The CPU is excellent, and coupled with a good GPU, it will be a rendering monster. And the power supply is abit overkill.

Finally, if you game at higher than 1080p, and render in Adobe Premiere like a maniac, or use heavy 3d ray tracing, get the 970. Otherwise, get an r9 280x.

Most of what I do is raytraced 3D scenes in After Effects (Lyric videos). Also, I already have the 970, so I think I'll hold on to it. Thanks for the input!!

seriously Hink, the FX 8120 is a ballin CPU. I ran one for several years. It is a serious rendering beast because of the cores.

It's great for a budget editing build. But I've jus about killer it now. Multiple day renders, ran it with the trash stock cooler in a case with 1 fan for over a year. Its a soldier for staying alive as long as it has. But it just can't keep up with my work flow anymore. (Also, the single core performance is pretty bad to be honest)
