Editing Build

I have $2400 to spend, so, I'm going to build a pretty high end gaming/editing build. This is a little treat to myself, since I've never owned a desktop computer, only store bought laptops from JB-Hi-Fi, or Hervey Norman.
The main specs are:

i7 4930k

GTX 690 (I can get one for $400, so why the hell not?)

32GB Corsair Dominator Platinum (4 x 8)

This rig will be used for 10k x 10k 300pi Photoshop photo-manipulations that exceed 60-80+ layers. Also some moderate editing and moderate gaming. Which my laptop REALLY struggled with. I usually had to scale down the dimensions of the PSB when working on my laptop. I've never been able to run Battlefield 3 on ultra at 30fps or 20 for that matter, I usually have to turn down the settings... a lot.

But, at least my first build won't be an 8320, HAF 912 modded out with stickers and blinding LED's kind of build. The HAF series actually hurts my eyes.

GTX690 is essentially 2 x GTX680 SLI on a stick (see Jeff Dunham). Photoshop/Premiere acceleration has some issues with SLI and will only use just one of your GPUs. I think the same is true for most other image/video editing software that have GPU acceleration.

I think a GTX780 Ti (or non Ti) would be better fit for your build.

Also games should run just as well or better with a 780 Ti. There are some rare cases that are well optimized for SLI and will run a bit better on the 690 on SOME resolutions, but just a handful and it's very unlikely that you'll come across them.

+1

SLI/Crossfire is for gaming.  Productivity will be much better on one GPU.
