So... yeah. Fanny pack is less than stellar. There's the whole ridicule aspect, which is annoying, but much more importantly I've come to the conclusion it just does not work well. First aid stuff, even in a box, is too small (I worry about what I don't have) and too difficult to get to. My gear fills the fanny pack too full, which means I can't use it for small purchases like vape oil or the plumbing stuff (1 connector, two clamps) I needed today without risking spilling said small items next time I open it. The loops I was using to attach to my belt are threatening to fail and are also too loose. Adding any sort of built-in organization to the inside beyond the single mesh pocket would be, at best, highly annoying. (Are my standards ridiculous? I expect so.) Hence... I've decided that to fix the current attempt would a waste of time and resources, and instead to try this again. It was worth the experiment -- now I can advise against fanny packs for EDC with some experience to back that sentiment up.
This is a rough approximation of what I think I'll be making. Ignore the red stuff -- I'm new to CAD. Very, very new.
The main pockets -- one for first aid, one for general gear -- are 7x7x2in, and will have elastic loops to restrain key items like multitool, torch, epipen, bandages. The other pockets are sized for their intended uses. From left, you have the cigarette hardcase, with zippo in front. Then wallet, and change in front, and finally phone. I hope the key D-ring and knife sheath are sufficiently obviously drawn, but the former is between the cigs and wallet, and the latter on the end. The circles each represent snaps, a closure method I particularly like.
Not worried about firearm -- I prefer to carry that under the shoulder.
The size here is about 16x16x2in. for the main body and no more than 5" deep at any point. My thought was to make the entire assembly out of leather.
