Ecc ram

If you edit video,3d rendering and if you have a GPU that advertises it do I need ecc ram ? (AMD w7000)

No you do not. ECC is for Error Correction which really only holds value in a server environment where you have lots of data transfers continuously.

I see ECC RAM as a professional level feature that only the really high end pros use for good reason.

The main use case I can see is constructing an image for a commercial or blockbuster type production. If you construct an image that will be seen by millions of people on super bowl day and there is a green dot that floats across the frame because of an error (which is what ECC ram prevents) it may produce a video on Youtube that receives 10m views, but also may get a developer fired.

If you are making billions as a company, a few extra 100$s on a few computers won't hurt. But as a *normal* pro, or amateur pro, I'd say use your money else where.

Funboyrule: That's an interesting use case for ECC ram -- makes 100% sense.

I understand your point but what about video game creation ?
