Simple answer is yes it is completly fine and it is so cheap because you can get a 10 footer for a couple cent's

Signal loss isn't an issue with these things until 200 Meters. 

I actually bought a 25 foot cable exactly like that. Works very nicely!

Also CAT6a is backwards compatible to to CAT5 right?

You shouldn't need to worry about AWG as there shouldn't be enough current going through those wires to matter what gauge of wire it is

Cat7 cable is at a reasonable price on newegg.

In Canada it's about $30 with shipping. In America it's $17 shipping included.

A 3 foot Cat5e cable at the physical store of Walmart is about $13.
