Easiest Method For: Transferring OS from HDD -> SSD

Hello all!

I just recently went out and purchased a 128GB SSD for the purpose of a new boot drive/some game storage. I'm new to the wonderful capabilities of an SSD and would love to know the easiest method of transferring my OS (Windows 8) to the new drive. Step by Step.

I've only had my computer for about 3 weeks and therefore don't particularly have a large amount of stuff on my current HDD (currently occupying 116GB of 1TB).

If there is such a way that involves backing up everything I have on my HDD to an external hard drive, except the OS, then doing a fresh install off the disk onto the SSD. Then once that is done, transfer everything back over from the external to where I want them.

Will there also be a lot of re-updating for Windows 8 by doing it this way? I recall W7 having a ridiculous amount of updating before it was fully ready for use.

Thank you very much.

Firstly with a new SSD firmware flash it to make sure its the latest as this should not be done with an OS installed.

Also you should now set if not already in your bios your HDD controller to ACHI mode to be faster with your new SSD this will need a full re install of the OS but worth it.

You can always clone drives
