Sup. I'm having massive issues with either my PSU or my mobo.
The issues are as follows :
Whenever I load up something heavy, like an FPS or Starcraft 2 I'd play a few seconds and then my system would shut down immidiately. Event log classifies this as a Critical event 41 - Kernel-Power.
Now this is most likely a PSU failure but i'm thinking the motherboard is possible aswell due to giving me constant Hangs. I would be doing something and it stops responding for 10 seconds..ish,(meanwhile hdd is showing 3k MS of seek latency) in serious cases this would make explorer hang and afterwords everything i've been doing meanwhile (like Ctrl alt del, open taskmanager, close programs and so fourth) would happen all at once.
I'm seriously not sure what's going on.
The specs are as follows :
FX6300 @ 3.9 ( Removed clock due to fear )
AssRock 970 Extreme 4
16GB of Geil value series ram
Sapphire Radeon 7950. Brand new.
Fortron Everest 80+ 800W PSU Modular.
Dual screens, like 8 USB devices, Ethernet, a router, all that good jazz.
The other, more worriesome thing i can think of is that the electric installation is shit, but that's the last resort.
Excuse me if it's the wrong section, i was not really sure where to put it since this a general techsupport question.
AssRock 970 Extreme 4
Teehee ;)
In all seriousness, though, this is a Build A PC topic, not Inbox.EXE.
Now that we are in the right forum, it's probably your PSU. It has okay efficiency, but the ripple and load line regulation are pretty terrible.
The problem is that before i went on vacation two weeks ago it had no such issue. Infact, the system barely utilizes half the PSU's peak power. Guess i'm going to be scratching my head tommorow.
Tried most software solutions, removed afterburner. Did everything i could. Nothing.
The wattage has nothing to do with the quality of the unit. It isn't a nice PSU, especially for the price. I can tell you that even if it isn't a PSU issue causing it, you should get a new PSU.
well, intermiddent freezing (atleast in my book of own failures) is a PSU issue.
tho I had to admit seeing a 800 watt PSU failing at that system looks very frightening. This seems to be a textbook example of 'dont trust raw numers' :S
Turns out it has it's power seperated across 4 12v rails.
What the fuck were they thinking?
Bump, resolved it, changed back to my old Delux 550w IceCube PSU.
Although i do know that this particullar PSU brand is frowned upon i find it to be really high quality, despite it's age. It's almost twice the weight of the everest an has given me no issues at all, not with the 5850 and not with my current 7950.
Though this has been resolved, crystal disk info can tell you details about the status of storage health. This is just for future reference
