Can anyone explain the purpose of them to me please?
i IMAGINE (as in im not sure) but that one is for the initial internet connection and the second is for a internal network so that it can remain connected to the entire network without slowing down the internet or vice versa
Hmmm. K.
Anyone else got any other ideas?
as far as i know one is treated as incoming and the other as outgoing packets.
Isnt one of them 1gbit and the other 100mbit?
Dual Gigabit.
And thats what i assumed too LOLUMAD. Seemed too simple though.
yeah it does seem simple, apparently when the two ports work together and obtain only one IP address its called Teaming, go figure...
I have the Gigabyte UD5P with the "Dual Gigabyte Lan"...I didn't test it out yet, this is directly from gigabytes website.
The benefits of having dual gigabyte Lan:
===========================
-High Velocity 2X Bandwidth Boost
The dual Gigabit LAN with Teaming functionality enabled allows 2 single connections to act as 1 single connection for double bandwidth, improving overall throughput.
-Prevents network downtime by transferring the workload from a failed port to a working port.
-Receive Side Scaling balances the network traffic load evenly between 2 CPU cores in order to improve performance.
-Adjusts power consumption automatically according to your LAN cable lengths, up to 10% power savings.
Yeah so it also depends on the router you have that will enable these benefits (check firmware type). Should be good for gaming and downloads.
web 2.0
that was helpful, and what the hell is internet 2.0 supposed to mean?
Yeah that was helpful, thanks.
Especially the double bandwidth point, sounds great to me.
so if i had 2 modems, i could connect them both to my pc and have double the speed?
lol, thats what he said...
No. You wont double the speed. at all. you are almost guaranteed stability aslong as the whole modem isnt failing.
If you loose connection on one cable, the other will still have connection, thus not giving you dc's ingame.
You could use your computer as a gateway for multiple computers. :)
Hmmm. What about a non wireless Ad-Hoc netowork? Not that i use that, just wondering.
That fucking question left me undecided for years until now, I've just found out that you can do a "teaming" setup with those dual ethernet ports with the advice from Albert. Sweet! XD
Anyway, guess this info here might relate to this topic.
Yes, but only if you had dual modems, because no consumer internet connection I know of provides more than 100mbit...
There was a woman who had 40GB/s line into her house, but that was a private project. The biggest commercial speed im aware of here in britain is 50Mb/s
