Downgrading Android via Linux

Hello Level1,

I want to downgrade my LG G3 [D852] to Kitkat. My ultimate goal is to install Lineage OS. However I do not have access to a Windows PC.

I want to follow this guide https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/1058206-lg-g3-lineageos-tutorial/. LTT video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZSIVQp4GIA. My phone model is the same. I cannot install LGUP as it is an .exe file.

Does anyone know if there’s a way to downgrade my phone without having to find a windows PC? I’m on Solus atm. If it’s not possible just let me know.

Thank You

Is there any particular reason you want to have the phone on KitKit and is the bootloader unlocked?

I want to root the phone. From what I have heard you can’t root the phone on the latest version of android released for the G3. Downgrading to kitkat will allow rooting. The bootloader is not unlocked.

I am pretty sure it is not possible right now. There is an oss tool to replace LGUP called salt, but flashing is still under development.

You should be able to get away with using a windows VM and USB pass through assuming your computer can handle a VM.
