Does this build look solid?

I'm considering this build http://pcpartpicker.com/p/AfMA
Any suggestions on it? I honestly chose the PSU because it matches the case, but as far as I know it's a decent PSU.

850W is really overkill unless you are SLI'ing, or OC'ing. Spend a little less on your PSU and spend it on a faster GPU, or a few white and black fans.

I should have mentioned, I do plan on overclocking and perhaps eventually adding a 2nd 670.

Its nice, but i should mention that the 8350 actually beats a 3570k 9 times out of 10 when it comes to gaming, and its cheaper. So more for your money.

But a lot of people are set on intel, just like how a lot of people are set on AMD. Just keep in mind that socket 1155 is essentially dead. Intel isnt gonna be producing anything else for it.

I've been contemplating going with the 8350, but in the end I have had better experience with Intel and am going to stick with that.
The socket is something I've been concered about as well, many times in the past I have been left in the dust, so to speak, because of needing to replace the entire mobo for a new socket. Is this going to happen soon enough to be a major concern, though?

From what I have heard the 1155 will no longer be available in the not too distant future. The exact date has not been released by Intel yet. If you are really happy with the Intel CPU you might want to consider the 2011 socket. I have heard nothing about that line of CPU being discontinued. The really big ouch is the lowest price on the Egg is 299.99 and that is for an i7 3820 Sandy Bridge which is virtually unclockable. The turbo boost is 3.6 GHz to 3.8 GHz. But hey, it comes with free shipping! Your other choice is to go for the i5 3570K, 1155 socket Ivy Bridge CPU. Get an awesome motherboard with an exceptional warranty and you should be able to run with that for many years to come. You can always add a second graphics card if you really want to then upgrade fans for quieter operation, LED lights to make it all pretty. My point is before I fall off the cliff here is there is nothing wrong with getting the 1155 now if you build it with the intention of keeping it for a long time and by then who knows what else may have changed.

Like I said, that's why I'd go AMD. I have a 8350 and it is very nice. However, just make sure that you get a decent cooler for it. Also, AMD is continuing the AM3+ socket for awhile yet.

And as I've said, the 8350 is cheaper AND it beats the 3570k in most games. In chrysis 3, Logan didnt even bother with the 3570k as he said the 8350, 3960, and 3770k all murdered it.

Best option here really is AMD. With the right Mobo and cooling, you can easily push a 8350 to 4.5ghz stable, and I've seen as high as 5.2 stable before. AMD boards are also normally so feature packed that I have extras seeping out of my ears.

But make sure you get a 8+2 power phase if you plan to oc. 4+1 is not enough for ocing an 8350, as it already requires a lot of power, even at stock speed.

Everything is fine except the graphics card, it is still an excellent card, but you can't do much overclocking on it due to the single fan being insufficient to cool it at that point. NZXT makes good power supplies, although they do use somewhat cheaper capacitors on their cheaper builds with more high-end japanese capacitors finding their way inside in the higher end and enthusiast PSU. The other really cool bit about them, is that the PCB inside the PSU is actually white.

Thanks for all the help everybody. I am left with a few more questions.

  1. If I decide to stick with 1155 and OC, will this mobo be sufficient or is there another that will perform better?
  2. What about if I go with the 8350? Which mobo would be good for OCing?
  3. If I stick in a 2nd 670 for SLI, and have at least CPU OCing on top of it will the PSU still be enough?

Well the MSI board has what they call the OC Genie which is suppose to give up to 36% boost in 3D gaming. MSI as a rule make a quality motherboard so I see no reason it should not be up to the task. If you decide to go with the AMD then Asus makes a monster of a board called the Sabertooth 990FX R2.0. I have included the link so you can see for yourself. It comes with a 5 year warranty so that tells me they are confident with this product. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131877

The specs on those graphics cards are minimum 500W so no I would go with an 1100W or even a 1200W for comfort. Nothing worse than an underpowered card. Once again, I hope this has been of some help and some extra information for you to chew on. Whichever way you go, have fun and enjoy your build.

Thank you very much. I think, even though I have had better experiences with Intel, I will go with the 8350 instead. I am also going to get a good 1200W PSU so I can eventually work from 1 to 2 and perhaps even 3 670's. Here is the basic list I am working with at the moment, though it is subject to change.

OMG, stop listening to this 8350 crap, it is only better due to it's price, not performance.

AMD fans got some power since logan dropped some tests, however.... these games are the only ones that favour AMD CPU's....

The intel will steadily beat the AMD elsewhere in all other games using 4 or less cores.

If you OC, the intel gains more performance per core vs AMD too.

Not a fanboy, just showing the truth as an AMD/intel user myself.

I would go for a 7970 over the 670, you get 4 games and more GPU grunt.

As far as the Intel vs. AMD is concerned, each side has a strong argument to it. I am not planning on putting this PC together immediately so I have time to compare an Intel build with an AMD build and see which will work out better for the price. And the price of the AMD is better than the Intel with not much of a difference, even if it is slightly worse in many cases. For now I am leaning towards AMD because I will get more out of the money in the long run. Also, as far as the GPU goes, I am sticking with the 670.

It is all up to you, i really do not care what you go for, but i will put the truth down for those wanting info :)

I really appreciate that, too. That's why I posted here, haha.
