Does the Cosair K70 keyboards still have software and hardware issues?

I thinking about getting my first mechanical keyboard and I'm leaning towards the Cosair RGB K70 keyboard with MX brown switches. I love the looks, the brushed aluminium and features. However, I've been seeing people reporting that the LED's burn out in a very short time, key's not functioning properly or even the entire keyboard will stop working. This worries me a lot because it is a very expensive keyboard and I want my keyboard to at least last a few years before getting a new one.

When I read about these problems, people say the RGB model won't have bad LED's, there's new software patches that fixes non-working keys and all that jazz. But I still see a few customer reviews saying their new keyboards are failing on them. So I'm not entirely sure if Cosair has solved these quality issues yet.

Does anyone own this keyboard? Is the keyboard safe enough to last a few years of daily use? Or should I stay away from it and look for alternatives?

@anon43112114 owns this keyboard (well, the non RGB version). May be able to help a tad.

Mine is the previous generation, so no RGB but the LEDs in the year that I have had my K70 have not failed and I often use them at full brightness, and overall i've never had any issues with it. but then again mine is not the RGB version and nor do you need software for it.

But corsair is quite a big company so I would think this would be fixed quite quickly..

I can't really speak to the RGB (at least anymore than a quick google search tells me). I do know the K70 boards with blue LEDs had really bad burnout issues though, and were discontinued for that reason. The boards with the red LEDs however are much more reliable. I've had my K70 w/ red LEDs and brown switches for about a year now, and no issues.

@WhiskeyRanger we have the same kb! :D

Yay! Keyboard buddies!

This is what happens when you buy Corsair Keyboards.

Yeah, those blue LEDs were faulty as hell.

Mine are red LED's, and I even spilled water on it this kb. Let it dry for a day, works like a champ.

can't wait till i get money and get on the Cooler Master Cherry MX Green Switch Master Race.

Dang, and I really love the blue lighting too. Maybe I'll look into getting a different keyboard. Because my whole rig has blue lighting and I would like to keep it consistent throughout. Thanks for the photo man!

Looks like the red LED's are more reliable than the rest. Thanks for the feedback peoples!

I had the white LED K95, and it lasted 4 moths before they started to burn out, and lost money in the deal too, I hate corsair, their EU customer support are the worst.

Well, there are other brands that make boards with blue backlighting. The Deck Hassium Pro has a blue LED version w/ brown switches (or the Deck Francium if you want to go tenkeyless). A few of the Ducky Shines have blue LEDs and brown switches as well. So there are other options of you want to go with blue backlighting.

Massdrop have some nice keyboard deals going on atm. There's this V60 with various colored back lighting and MX Red, Brown, Green, or Blacks going, considering you're looking at the K70 I'd assume you weren't looking for a 60% keyboard, but just in case here it is: LINK
Note it's massdrop, so delivery can take some time. I wouldn't mind one of these myself if I weren't in the UK haha.

There's also a V80 TKL which comes in MX clears and red+blue LEDs ONLY: LINK
