Does Intel 14th gen / Z790 do any pcie bifurcation?

I’m specifically looking at the Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Pro X. Does anyone know if the top x16 pcie slot can bifurcate into x4s? I’d like to use an AIC to install two u.2 drives in the system.

For whatever reason the forum software isn’t letting me add a link to the AIC but it’s on Amazon as “Micro SATA Cables PCIe x8 Gen 4 for Bifurcated U.2 NVME Dual Port AIC”.

It should, take a look on the Intel 700 pdf from Gigabyte, page 19.

But pay attention to specs, if you’re going to populated the M2C:

CPU:

  • 1 x PCI Express x16 slot, supporting PCIe 5.0 and running at x16 (PCIEX16)
  • The PCIEX16 slot shares bandwidth with the M2C_CPU connectors.

The answer is and, for any 12th/13th/14th gen Intel CPU, regardless of the board, will always be no. The PCIe controller on those CPUs allow only for bifurcation to x8/x8, no further. I’m not allowed to include links (why?) but if you search for “13th Generation Intel® Core™ and Intel® Core™ Processor (14th Gen) Datasheet, Volume 1 of 2”, you’ll find confirmation on page 140.
