Does anyone else find the DEUS EX Mankind devided premise a bit problematic?

According to what they said in the story the Augmented humans are being oppressed and live in the ghettos. How to do you oppress a part of the population with augmented physical abilities, with augmentation based on resources to have them? It not like the X-Men that was inherited and are born with the genes and only a minority has abilities. Augmentations need money and the people that would have the best should be powerful/influential ppl right?

So are the rich augmented human not oppressed or do they chose not be augmented? Why would they chose not to?

Well there are many ways. a good few examples are between rich neighborhoods and poor neighborhoods. you want to suppress poor people in wealthy areas, make an area of the world where you can only have a living if you make a certain amount of money. another option if you wish to suppress the rich, is to tax them to holy hell.

but in Deus Ex for example, if you wanted to suppress "Augmented" people would not have to serve you. what i mean by that is restaurants don't have to serve you food, hospitals won't have to give you or take your health care. make the neighborhood hate those types of people. if you were in that predicament you'd go to a place where you'd feel accepted. and welcomed. what better way to do that than, to go to an area where people will understand your pain. so in a way, the government isn't suppressing you, but people are.

I get the idea. But my question is how, why and who would suppress a population that the discriminating characteristic (that gives advantages) takes money and influence to develop and optain in the first place, thus the elite would have anyway?

maybe the real rich can afford bio replacements. while the poor can only afford the mechanical ones.

even in dxhr the whole idea was that people are making gangs and prostitution and whatnot for money to buy neuropozine (however its spelled) just to make their arms and legs even work & quit hurting
