im in the hunting for a vpn (for the past two years but, but who has the time..), and today, just minutes before i purchased a monthly subscription to private internet access to try how it affects my speed (because im on 100/100 fiber and i dont want to loose a lot of that speed) i googled something like 'does pia really have no logs', and then the worm got into my head.
i found a bunch of articles about vpn in general and that you really cant trust them (i know you cant trust anyone on the internet but you get the point). so im asking you here, do you trust your VPN? and what is your VPN of choose?
i know pia had a couple of recommendations in the show and a colleague at work uses that vpn, but im just asking a wider audience for an opinion.
I use PIA myself, and honestly, if you think about it, any higher-ups, no matter how you use the internet, can access your information, VPN or not. Your data has to go through somebody even if they claim they don't look at it. It's all a matter of who you're looking to hide your traffic from. PIA says that they keep no logs of IP addresses, but they never said they don't keep logs of data bluntly (correct me if I'm wrong on that).
A VPN is always better than no VPN, no matter what you're doing online. My word is if you feel like it's still not safe, you're correct. No matter what kind of safety walls you put up, if some higher-ups REALLY wanted to see what you were up to , they could do it without issue. But a VPN is still a superb way of hiding your data from ISPs and others who wana snatch ya.
Yes, because it is my site to site with my equipment on both ends. However in regards to generic VPN services then no. If you don't control both ends just how secure is it?
If the nsa can force multi billion dollar companies into handing over information I can guarantee pia dosn't stand a chance. The only point to pia is to encrypt your traffic to a degree.
I bought PIA with a giftcard not purchased by me then i just run everything through me then through internet i dont pay for, through PIA, through tor for anything that need be anonymous.
but yea, i just want a layer of encryption so other people on the same network (or some countries) cant see what im doing. not that reading tek syndicate is something to hide, just it doesnt feel really nice :D.
here is another question, how can you check if your data is really encrypted? except going trough another computer/server and snooping all the data?
