Do you guys think spotify is worth it?

I used to use Spotify a lot but sometimes I get hit a point where I get bored of music for a bit. No idea why. Anyways I usually cancel my sub then. I’m debating about going back though, with the student discount for $5 a month, but I’m unsure if it’s worth it.

Do you guys think Spotify is worth it?

That depends on if you're out and about a lot, or if you drive often and have the ability to hook your phone up to your stereo while you drive.

I use it every day on my commute. Also the Discover Weekly finds me some very good music 9 out of 10 songs I like. The bit rate is pretty high if you pay for it, meaning it's going to sound pretty close to lossless, and much better than anything on youtube or a CD.

I think it's worth it, if you are a big music fan and need it on the go.

I've had Spotify premium since 2013. So, call it bias, but I believe it is worth it. I originally purchased it because I wanted to get out of the habit of pirating music (Same reason why I enjoy Hulu/Netflix). It has pretty much everything I could ask for in terms of music and features. Offline mode is useful for driving or going to the gym, etc. Discover Weekly is great for refreshing your playlists, so you don't keep repeating the same few songs (which I end up doing anyway). Just avoid linking Spoitfy to your Facebook if you happen to have one. I had a friend who made that mistake, and it still posts what song he is listening to. It's an easy fix, but he's lazy.

My general rule of thumb is compare everything to the cost of a movie vs hours of entertainment received. It's a horrible idea, because I hate going to the theatre just because of how expensive it is, but it's a useful idea none-the-less. If the average movie will cost about $15 for 2 hours of entertainment, you should expect to spend $7.5/hr of entertainment. I listen to music on average 4hrs per day, which is about 112hrs per month. At $10/mo, that's about 9 cents per hour of entertainment. Seems worth it to me.

I know a lot of my friends at college use Spotify all the time because it's so cheap for students. I decided against using Spotify and ended up going with Google Play Music. I figure it's $10 a month, already on my phone, I already had purchases through it, it was one less account I needed to create, and I get most everything I want to listen to (my friends request some songs that I don't have access to, but that doesn't bother me at all). As a side benefit, I get YouTube Red to support the channels I watch. I have a disdain for ads, especially when they play over and over and over and over and...

not if you have a what.cd account.

I tried spotify with their $1 for 3 months and really didn't use it much.

I prefer Google Music. In addition to Youtube Red coming in the same package, you can upload your own songs if you can't find something.

So google play music comes with Youtube Red? I went to check the yt red website and it doesn't say anything about music other than the youtube music. Is that what you guys are talking about or does youtube music replace play music?

Fuck Spotify. I'm sticking to i-Tunes, Spotify is basically a service giving all the profits to the artists. They're already rich bastards, what more do they want from us? Might as well just use YouTube, because it seems as if they don't care about providing good music, as long as you're giving into they're service that is all that matters.

YouTube Music is just a free playlist app that still has ads unless you have YouTube Red. By getting either YouTube Red or Google Play Music, you get the other included. Link below if you're still confused about Google's shitty naming:

I think it's worth it if. Sure, you don't own the music you listen on it, but you can access it from everywhere. I don't have spotify personally, I subscribed to Apple Music because I have an iPhone and I think it has a better intergration with the OS.

I've been using pandora for years, just today I decided to try out spotify again. btw, I'd never pay for it. On the desktop I've been listening for awhile now and there has been no ads or anything. I use the cracked version from the Pirate Bay for my phone. No ads, unlimited skips, no BS, and free. Works perfect. My LG G4 recently updated to 6.0 so my pandora app started acting kinda funky. I couldn't find a good update so I decided to try out spotify again. So far, its radio is far better than pandora. All of my pandora stations were basically playing the same 5 songs over and over and nothing new was coming out of it.

oh.. I didn't know that "cracked" spotify apps and the like existed. Gotta find that now.. if it has offline listening I really couldn't care less. However I have had ads on the desktop, after a fairly random about of songs it plays 4-5 ads in a row which is so annoying.

If I can't figure out a way to get a cracked version I'll have to decide between google play music that comes with youtube red but does cost $5 more or the $5 spotify student membership. Tough choice.

Yup, I've been using cracked pandora for years. So nice. For desktop I also use youtube, so I guess if there was ads I could just mute that tab and play something on youtube whilst it plays out. I could link you to the spotify .apk that I got. If you do use android that is.

I like Spotify. I pay for it as well. I use it a lot when I'm commuting in the car. I think it is worth it especially if you are a student and get the big discount.

As a dedicated music streaming software, Spotify is worth it. Sort of.

I like its algorithms for setting up a random radio station way better than just about any software out there. And it's music base is pretty darn good.

However, I think Google Play music is better for two reasons: the bundled YouTube Red subscription, and the availability of a lot of niche songs. There are many small artists that you can't find anywhere else on Google Play, and I really like that.

Well I think I'm going to go with the google play/youtube red combo.
Reasons:
Store my songs online and sync them.
$5 extra for youtube red? Sure. Sounds good to me. Don't have to deal with ads on my phone and chromecast. I like it.
One less account to deal with.
Red supports the youtubers I watch which is a plus, I use ad block rn so I kind of don't at all.
I like google plays radio thing, seem neat.

I myself don't particularly care music-streaming services at all, but in my experience, Spotify is only worth it if you pay for it. Otherwise you'll have to deal with hearing ads all the time (which may not seem so bad at first, but will get really annoying over time), and missing out on some really good features.

I do, however, recommend Google Play Music. You pay the $10 a month and you get everything. No extra bullshit. And there's the YouTube Red thing.
