Ok so I'm building kind of an unusual worksation. It's fairly modest, I'm planning for it to be under 2000 dollars, but here's the issue. In this workstation I'm going to put an entry level workstation gpu into my PCI slot, and that's the only PCI slot I'll use. At the same time I want to put in a Sound Card (Xonar Esssence STX) and a Capture Card (Avermedia Live Gamer HD), and those are both PCI-E. So is there a good quality motherboard, under say $250, that has more PCI-E than PCI? Or am I missing some crucial relation between PCI and PCI-E slots when it comes to GPU usage on the motherboard?
Do you already have a PCI GPU that you want to throw in there? Because if you're planning on buying a PCI GPU, don't. It depends on what you're planning to do, of course, but I would just use a PCI-e video card like the Asus ENGTX560 Ti. (you said entry level, but for $119 in a $2000 machine, I'd get this one)

Most motherboards do. Some have 1 (maybe 2) PCI slots for backward compatibility, but I wouldn't recommend buying PCI hardware anymore.
i found this board, its a littlebit over over $250, but it seems like a very great board. the board only does not support ECC memory

You could also use a socket 2011 i7-4820K, the bennefit of this particular platform, is that it has more pci-e 3.0 lanes.
Is there a particular reason why you want to use a PCI Graphics card as opposed to a PCI-e compatible one? There are absolutely no benefits that I can think of for it.

Do you think you could explain a little more about the different types of PCI and PCI-E and compatibility with certain cards. Because I don't think I'm even informed well enough on that. And remember that I will be buying a workstation video card.
