Do I really need to buy a new keyboard/mouse

So I got my first build down, and all that's left for me to decide is whether I want to buy a fancy new keyboard and mouse or to keep the ones I'm using. I'm curently using a wireless K/M combo (this one to be exact). How much will my K/M affect my gaming experience? Could I get away with just using what I have? If not, what budget K/M would you recommend?
Thanks again

I personally think a keyboard has little to no impact on gaming performance, at least in my experience, but mice definitely do because of things like tracking speed and accuracy.

your mouse and keyboard are your own personal preference.... if you're currently happy with them, then no...

Personally, I prefer mechanical switches on my keyboard (Cherry Red or Browns preferably)... I currently use a Max Keyboard Nighthawk x9 with blue backlit keys... and I love the Mionix NAOS and Razer Deathadder mice... none of which are "budget"... especially the keyboard :P

I do regard wired connections to have better, more accurate responsiveness... last I checked and it's been a while... the CM Storm keyboards were fairly cheap for a mechanical kb and the mouse really depends on what features you want... you'll generally look for a couple programmable buttons, and a DPI raise/lower button for sniping/back to reality quick head turn... but know it's all in your own opinion and if you're happy with what you have, keep it... I like the Deathadder as a "budget" gaming mouse though... I don't think $50 is much for the quality there and it fits a variety of mouse grips

I finally picked up a gaming mouse just so I could play The Witcher (first one is kbm only) and it made a world of difference over my old Dell crap, still rocking that keyboard though.

Give it a try first with your current setup I think you will figure out what you want to do pretty quickly.

Well it's one of those what are you used to and what can you deal with things... yes, a nice mouse is super noticeable... but I could argue a nice mechanical keyboard is moreso noticeable for everything including gaming on the stress it puts on your fingers to the overall typing experience you have...

but it's subjective... and one of those splurge things as well... it like once you have a smartphone a flip phone will no longer do... just as once you have a mechanical keyboard, you get mad anything that isn't... it just feels so much more fluid and smooth...

though when you first type on a new switches you will typo like a motherfucker for several weeks till you get used to the fluidity... especially Cherry Reds... in the end though... sooooo much better :P

Well I don't really do much typing actually, so I'm just wondering how much a keyboard will affect my gaming experience.

You will benefit from a gaming mouse since it'll have about 100x the resolution as that tiny wireless.

I use a Corsair M65 mouse and a Microshart Sidewinder X4 keyboard.

If I had to pick one, I'd say the mouse would be the better upgrade, but having said that, I truly don't have the desire to upgrade the keyboard. If whatever keyboard you are using now breaks, sure, upgrade, but if it works for you now you'll probably be perfectly fine with it later. I personally type quite a lot for university and I game, but the cost to benefit simply isn't there for a $100+ mechanical keyboard compared to a good $40 rubber dome keyboard in my opinion.

As for mouse, that is an upgrade I would recommend if you can afford it. I wouldn't bother with one of those gamer bling mice with lights and sirens and whatnot that you can sync to your neighbors' breathing patterns, but something basic with minimal acceleration and basic DPI adjustment is a pretty good starting point.

I'd be interested to see if somebody with a mechanical keyboard shared the same sentiment as me as for how big of an upgrade it is...

cause personally I consider my keyboard a much bigger upgrade than my mouse was when I replaced it...

Do note to OP.... if you're fine with what you have.... keep what you have... I'm just asking the question out of sheer impact of peripherals from somebody that has a nice both kind of thing

A mech keyboard certainly is a much nicer typing experience, but a keyboard is a keyboard is a keyboard when it comes to functionality.

I think I'm gonna get a mouse and stick with my keyboard. This is the mouse I'm thinking of getting: https://pcpartpicker.com/part/logitech-mouse-910004360

K&M boil down to personal preference, period.

  • If you find you don't like rubber dome, go mechanical.
  • If you find your mouse too slow, get whatever the current Monoprice gaming mouse is: good & cheap.

If you are happy with what you have then I don't see the need to change your setup. But you can have a top notch membrane keyboard and a really accurate mouse for cheap.

Personally I use a mechanical keyboard with blue cherry mx switches and macros with onboard storage. I switch between these two mice.

Mech keyboards are the way to go if you spend enough time using one. I use blue cherry switches. The clicky sound is exquisite, and not having to bottom out when you type is great. It makes you faster and there is less fatigue.

going from a dell with hard rubber domes to mech not much of an upgrade. going from a soft rubber dome to mech huge difference. going from a craptastic $5 mouse to a mouse with mech switches and adjustable DPI major upgrade. bottom line you dont need the fancy stuff it just helps in some situations.

If you have the money and are willing to spend it, a fancy kb and mouse are a nice quality of life increase, but they aren't necessary by any means.
