Do I need a BIOS update?

Build :

  • Case: Ultra Defender II
  • PSU:  CX600M
  • Mobo:  GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3
  • CPU:  AMD FX-8350
  • CPU Cooler:  Stock
  • GPU:  ZOTAC GTX 970
  • RAM:  G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB
  • Power Supply: CORSAIR CX600
  • SSD: KINGSTON DIGITAL 120GB

I ordered a new computer last week and everything came in today. After I finished the assembly and turned on the computer all of the lights and fans turned on, but nothing showed up on the monitor.  At first I figured it could be a the VGA to DVI adapter that was acting up, so I got a HDMI cord and that did not fix the issue.  I then switched out the GPU from the current GTX 970 to my older Radeon 7970 and I still did not get an image on the monitor.

I looked on a few forum posts and I read about the AMD FX-8350 not working with the Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 without a BIOS update.  Unforchantly I cannot update the BIOS because the computer is not posting. Does anyone know a work around for this?  Any help would be appreciated, thanks !

The Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 rev 4.0 should work out of the box with any FX cpu.

  • Double check the 8 pin cpu power connector
  • Reseat the GPU.
  • Reseat the ram.
  • clear Cmos.

I reseated the CPU and cleared the Cmos and it worked!  I figured it had to be something more difficult than that.  First time building with an AMD CPU. Thanks
