Not sure if here or for another topic. If I build a setup to passthrough a GPU to a Win VM, would it be idling waiting for the VM to turn on since the host machine would be running? If so, aren’t there GPUs that basically idle at a couple watts when not in use at all?

I have a 1650 and some radeon something or other. both appear to go into a low power mode when the guest they are assigned to is shutdown. The only way I can really tell is the fans shut off, and the pcie link drops to its lowest speed.

If you are using the vfio-pci driver, then, yes they do go into a low power state.

IIRC My R9 Fury had a green LED next to the power level indicators that came on during that mode.
