Do all VPN servers encrypt packets for Xboxs, play stations iPads, iPhones, android phones and android tablets? Or does it only encrypt packages to and from traditional computers like laptops and desktops? Thanks in advance
Depends on the VPN and How its implimented within the network your on.
It depends on the software they use.
pptp - This works on the most platforms windows, linux, android, mac and ios but it is the least secure and should not really be used because of its weak RC4 encryption that IIRC has been broken.
l2tp - Based on pptp but with better security it works on most major platforms windows, linux, android, mac and ios. It uses AES 256bit so its pretty secure and fast.
OpenVPN - Not natively supported by any os but with 3rd party apps you can use it on windows, linux, android, mac but no ios support. It can use a varity of diffrent encryptions but you should probably use AES 256bit for speed. It is also the fastest.
I dunno if you can encrypt xbox or not but you really dont want to. While OpenVPN is fast enough that you can use it for web browsing and so on its not fast enough for low latency connections that you want for gameing.
You can run the VPN to your Router if it supports it (or if you use DD-WRT) and then anything connected through your router is going through the VPN, it saves having to run a VPN for every device indivdually.
That sounds like the sort of thing I'm looking for. do you have a provider you recommend?
