DnB Complex Drums 101: W-what timing is that?!

Drum and Bass is my favorite genre of music and Complex Drums, or at least thats what I call it, is kind of the half breed twin / mutt that you’re not sure if it exactly counts as music.

Good example of complex drums: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5A7zqOWdbk

Bands Worth Noting: Venetian Snares, Aphex Twin, 9 in/ Nails (they have 1 or 2 complex drums songs).

If you know any track that you think are cool post them here!!

I don't get it... the rhythm for the most part has nothing to do with the melody... except for about 15 seconds at the 4 minute mark...

I'm not a big drum and bass guy I suppose... but the intro was beautiful, then the rhythm kicks in and sounded amateur as hell with blown out bass and out of sync 8-bit drum kicks...

not my style apparently... I wouldn't exclude it from "music".... i would from music I can appreciate :)

I though by "Complex Drums" you meant something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snGxAUBMZHY

I thought you would be referring to something more along the lines of:

I could continue the off-topic drum-off by posting some Virgil Donati, but let's get back to the topic at hand here and not derail the OP.

I think this type of electronica is called glitch sometimes. It sounds very similar to a lot of DnB, but just sped up. I'll do some exploring and see if I can find something I dig and post it.

More or less. Venetian snares does a lot of stuff in 7/4 and 13/4. Aphex twin has some songs in 8/3, which I'm not sure how to keep up with that but he did it. At least twice. That's mostly what I like about it. 32nd and 64th notes in 7/4 sounds amazing.

I feel I should rename the thread.....

I really only know of venetian snares and Aphex Twin but I imagine someone knows other bands.
