DIY Cheap Multimonitor Stand Project - Build Log

I have always wanted a Multi-Monitor Stand, but everything with more than 3 monitors gets really expensive, and i can't really afford them as a student. So, i decided to build my own Monitor Stand for 6 Monitors!
My Initial Idea was a Metal Rod, somehow attached to my desk, with two horizontal, height-adjustable bars attached to it.
So i went to a local hardware store and wandered around a bit. I then went home with the following stuff:

I'm now going to assemble these things to find out if the table leg supports the weight.
Until now, i've spent around 25€ on this.

I'm gonna watch this, looks like it could be pretty neat.

off to a good start, looking forward to see your progress

Interesting. Will definitely follow the progress.

I have now assembled all these parts:

The height adjustement in detail:

If everything works out, i will attach a second bar with the same mechanism above this one. now i'll have to do some testing if this is stable enough.
I have also ordered these VESA mounts from ebay:

This is such a good idea and looks really good so far! I may need to replicate this in the very near future... :D

Nice. Here's a thread where someone did something somewhat similar:

Maybe it will help some. Good luck : )

Looks good so far :)

Thanks for the link, his version looks very nice, i had thought of using metal pipe, but it was very expensive at my local store, also i wanted height adjustement as i have very different monitors.

Thanks :)

Thats what im trying to figure out right now :D
The weak point is probably the small base plate of the table leg, but thats why i bought that metal plate - i might use it as a support. the aluminium bar should be strong enough, but i noticed that it twists a bit if you pull down on one side of the bar - i might have to find a better solution for mounting the bar to the table leg.
EDIT: i could swear he asked if it will be able to support the weight. :D

I did ask, but then I saw you had already wrote that you was figuring it out so I decided to edit it out.

I went to my hardware store again this morning and bought these things:

I cut a 12 x 12 cm piece out of the large aluminium sheet and drilled some holes:

and assembled it as my custom VESA mount:

i then attached it to my monitor and then to the stand:

Front view:

I think one table leg might be able to support my 3 monitors, but because i plan on making a stand for 6 monitors, i decided to get a second table leg. i plan to make the VESA mounts removable from the stand, for easy monitor attachment, so tomorrow i will redo my first mount and attach a second table leg.

So today i finished the first "Phase" of my Monitor Stand - I have now attached it to my desk with some clamps and attached my two VESA-Compatible monitors. my third monitor does not have a VESA mount, but i have a plan for that one :)
"Phase 2" will then be the second row of monitors.
But enough of the talking, here are the pictures:

The completed Stand:

Mounted on the table:

...and monitors:

the monitor mount in detail (you can now easily lift it off the bar):

Thats it for today, now im gonna hunt for some cheap VESA monitors on ebay and build the second row :D
