A little blog I wrote about the new flagship Sony smartphone and its apparent....fail!!
I havent really looked into this so forgive me, but isn't this them just covering their asses? as I guess they cant "guarantee" its water tightness? I have z1 and never had any issues under water. Although I am sure it has changed design since...?
Covering their asses maybe, but underwater photography is the Z series's USP.
If Sony are indeed covering their own asses it is the same as someone selling you a really expensive toaster and as a disclaimer, it is advised you use said toaster to put bread in it but not push the lever down.
I believe at time of writing this blog, if you could not prove that water damage to the Sony phone was an accident, "bye bye warranty".
I killed my Xperia Z1 Compact when I dropped it in the bath and I had to get it replaced.
Ah unlucky I never had any issues personally :/ At the end of the day I do kinda agree with them as I bet they get loads of people trying to fob them off for a new phone.
Yeah, still love the Z5 :) but I see what you mean :)
Well... I didn't have to pay for a replacement because on the outside it just looked like the battery died, however I also killed that phone because I was riding my bike and the chain came loose and throw me half-way across the pavement and I landed directly on top of the phone which completely bent it out of shape and I had to do a backup using an OTG adapter for a keyboard/mouse and a DualShock 4 controller, that time I had to pay £70 to get it replaced.
So i cant take it underwater? ok.
I guess it's a bad thing for those actually wanted to take pictures underwater and were doing that with previous models. This still looks like a good phone though, but if they can put out the extra effort to actually make it waterproof than i think they should.
It can go underwater and survive but it is risky as the only thing stopping water getting inside the phone are three caps covering the usb, micro sd card, and sim card slots and I suspect one of mine wasn't closed completely at the time.
Here in Bangkok they are still advertising the phones in the Sony stores as waterproof.
Someone didn't get the memo.
Here is a disclaimer from Sony:
Disclaimers:
*The Xperia Z5 Compact is waterproof and protected against dust, so don’t worry if you get caught in the rain or want to wash off dirt under a tap, but remember: all ports and attached covers should be firmly closed.
