Display issues due to possible dead card?

I have been overclocking my GPU for some time now and just recently have come across an issue regarding my display. It boots up and everything just fine, but once I type my password to get to the desktop, it flickers off to a black screen after showing the desktop for maybe a millisecond. I CAN still access it in safe mode, but if the overclock I put it under is the issue then I don't know how to fix it in that mode, since the program doesn't even recognize a card being in there.

Now, regarding the card, it is an Asus R9 290 and the software I used was MSI Afterburner. The OC that was set was 1115 mhz on the core and 1475 on the memory. I ran firstrike to make sure it was stable and then played some games for an hour or two. I didn't run into the problem until the next day when I tried booting up.

So... Did I just overdo it and fry the card or could it be something else?

Most likely the overclock. Have you tried bringing it back to stock?

I can't get afterburner to run properly in safe mode as it doesn't show any of the OC profiles I have, or even that I have a card installed. Unless there is a way in my BIOS to get to the gpu settings, I'm out of luck. And I do not believe there is a physical BIOS switch on the card either

You can try enabling Windows Installer in safe mode (there are guides around the internet with a quick google) and try uninstalling MSI Afterburner.

Uninstalled it in safe mode and now it won't even go to the password section before going black... Odd...

Can you still get into safe mode properly?

EDIT: Do you have onboard video or tried another video card?

Does the card has a dual bios?
Dont know that out of my head from the Asus card.

No, I looked for a BIOS switch and it didn't have one. HOWEVER, I guess I did a manual reset or something because when I unplugged then replaced it in my rig it was just fine. So it is definitely fixed now :) thanks everyone for the help!
